Megadeth-House of Blues - Anaheim

Megadeth is one of my favorite bands and seeing them live only made me worship them even more. The HoB in Anaheim is pretty small but I liked it better that way. The opening band was a called Endo. They had a Disturbed sound to them almost but still an alright band. Good band to mosh to. The excitment built as Sex Pistols was played over the PA however the drunk guy behind me who thought he sounded just like the singer from Sex Pistols got annoying considering half the time he didnt even know the lyircs. Oh well. FINALLY the lights go down, the curtain goes and God (Dave Mustaine) takes the stage and plays the opeing riff to "Dread and the Fugitive Mind". The crowd went insane. I was right infront too and it kicked fucking ass! They then went into "Kill the King". They played the rest of the set just blazing through the songs and playing them perfectly. It was insane. Then during one song he stopped playing and said, "I was watching the news and heard that those middle-eastern mother fuckers say they are gonna wage a Holy War against us." (He smirks as the crowd raises their middle fingers) "Well those bastards sure are luck I can't fly a fighter jet." Yep, its official, Mustaine is God. All in all a great show. In fact one of the best I have ever been to. Don't die until you have seen Megadeth live.

Ozzfest 2001-at Glen Helen Blockbuster Pavillon

Ozzfest, the biggest metal show on earth put on by Ozzy (well Sharon really...). I was a little dissapointed that Slayer and Pantera were not there this year but there was still plenty of metal to go around. I won't review all the bands on the second stage but I beleive Otep, American Head Charge, and Systematic deserve recognition.

Main Stage

Taproot: Not metal really but an alright band. The lead singer kept saying he saw Britney Spears in the crowd which got annoying. Sounded ok live but the crowd sure didn't like them, when he announced they were gonna play there last song a loud cheer went up.

Mudvayne: I missed them becasue the schedule was all fucked up so I was in the line getting something to drink when they played.

Black Label Society: Before seeing them live I was not a huge fan but afterwards I was. They even played "No More Tears". Zakk Wylde is great guitarist and almost every time they went into a new song he changed guitars. A great performance by a great band.

Crazy Town: They suck dick. I have no idea why they were at Ozzfest. Only the girls in the crowd knew there songs or even cared.

Disturbed: I honestly like Disturbed and seeing them live was great. A great show and actually one of my favorite performances.

Linkin Park: See Crazy Town.

Papa Roach: Terrible. Absolute shit. I mean they suck studio but live it is suck times a million. I mean at least Crazy Town and Linkin Park could play there songs but Papa Roach couldn't even remeber how to play there own songs.

SlipKnot: I use to enjoy SlipKnot but lately they have started to get irratating. I'm not a hardcore fan like alot of people. Put on a good ahow. Not as wild as they usually are but still great and they played some stuff off their new album.

Marilyn Manson: I honestly can't stand his music but he is a great showman. For deing booed and having stuff thrown at him the last time he played he certainly got the crowd going this time.

Black Sabbath: They are Gods. After standing for 12 hours in the hot sun and thirsty as hell, as soon as they got on stage it didn't matter. They are fucking gods.

NOTES:Traffic sucked more then Papa Roach did. Whoever had the plane with the banner "SIN=DEATH, CHRIST=LIFE READ JOHN 3:16" flying by I just want you to know that everybody was flipping you off and several bands made fun of you; its Ozzfest, we could care less.

Megadeth-The World Needs a Hero

Megadeth was formed in the early 80's by former Metallica guitarist Dave Mustaine. They have released truly great thrash albums like Peace Sells...But Who's Buying, Rust in Peace, and Countdown to Extinction. Honestly, all their albums were great up until Risk which seemed to cater more to American "pop" radio the anything else. But Mustaine and company have certainly done what Metalheads around the world were hoping they would do: a return to the old sound with the uncomprimising metal we all love, and sure enough they did, 10 fold. The album opens with "Disconnect", a song that is mild compared to other songs on the album but it paves the way for the rest. It then goes into the title track, "The World Needs a Hero", here is when the you know this IS a Megadeth album. Its fast and heavy, the way it should be. The next song, "Moto Psycho", is similar and makes for a great metal anthem. "1000 Times Goodbye" is another heart-racing riff-filled song with a chorus you can't get put of your head. "Promises" is almost ballad-like but still a good song and in shows Mustaine's vocal abilities quite well I thought. "Recipe for Hate...Warhorses" and "Losing my Senses" have some great lyrics and again another two great songs. "Dread and the Fugitive Mind" first appeared on Capitol Punishment and I loved it then and still do on this album and certainly one of the more heavier songs on the album. "Silent Scorn" is a musically-enticing instrumental that has a weird yet interesting use of a trumpet in the background. "Return to Hangar" is great. Mustaine wrote this song to prove he could still play his fast, agressive, ear-raping speed metal and of course he pulls it off. The only song I find brought the album down a little was the last song, "When". But otherwise a great fucking metal album that all should own. They have left the radio friendly days of Risk and shown thay are still metal gods. Now lets hope Metallica will follow in the foot steps of Megadeth for a change...
